Mountain Cottage dates back to the 19th century, and each owner has added something new this is evident in the quirky cottage you find today, some of our favourite features are:

- Luxurious master bedroom with en suite and  freestanding bath

- Ideal for families, sleeping 5+ across three rooms; two doubles and a single room

- Unique outdoor spaces from the balcony to The Rest and Pavilion to Belvedere, you'll have options for every moment

- Cosy spaces with shuttered dining and living rooms.

The Bedrooms

The Master: On the upper floor features a king sized bed; it is perfect for couples with a relaxed and open feel. This room tastefully decorated with recycled and quirky furniture and if you fancy a lazy morning in the place to be with en-suite and TV you can really get comfy!

The Second Bedroom: Features a double bed and is great for a couple or children alike; it is light and airy with views onto the garden, it also is just off the wetroom and toilet.

The Third Bedroom: Features a single bed, perfect for all ages it’s spacious with it’s vaulted ceiling and views onto the garden, slightly separate from the rest of the house up a small staircase and comfy with mega beanbag!  (The cottage also has a spare popup bed, which can be used for extra space.)

Living Spaces

The Dining Room: Is at the centre of the cottage, it is a really hub for your holiday. It’s original features such as the iron range and sash windows, combined with the large table and bench make it a great place to get everyone together for a family meal or board game session.

The Living Room: Is a cosy thick walled room with shuttered windows, stylish leather sofas and original art. So whatever the weather you can huddle down, get comfy and cuddle up in front of a great film, on the smart 40’’ TV.

The Kitchen: Whether your cooking a quick pizza or making a four course extravaganza the kitchen with it’s sleek quartz surfaces and openness to the dining room is an enjoyable room to be in. It has everything you need; microwave, oven, four electric hobs, fridge with ice box and of course a dishwasher!

The Outside Spaces

The Belvedere: Coming from the Italian ‘bel’ beautiful and ‘vedere’ vision is exactly that. Situated high in the garden it commands a very admirable view of the lake which you can enjoy sipping wine on it’s balcony. This unique room was originally used as a reading room, and we have tried to keep this alive with a small desk, two comfy chairs and selection of books and art.

The Pavilion: This suntrap just separated from the cottage is a great addition, with a table football, chalk wall, music system and games it is a great place for those wet days or an evenings entertainment away from the TV.

The Rest: We know the Lakes isn’t always the driest place and The Rest (otherwise known as the bus shelter) is the perfect antidote to this; completely covered and with a heat lamp, you can enjoy drink outdoors overlooking the view in any weather!

The Garden: Eating outside is one of those things which when done well is a joy, at Mountain Cottage the barbeque area offer a protected view of the lake whilst still featuring a large table and barbeque, perfect for summer evenings.

The Bathrooms

The Wetroom: Is a massive and luxurious shower, with natural light from the solar tube and bright green tiles, it is the modern wake up call you need to get your day off on the right foot.

The Toilet: conveniently just off the second and third bedrooms, it is does what it sets out to do!

The En-suite: Whether you have been out for a long day hiking and want to soak in the bath or scrub up in the shower for dinner out, do so in style and comfort.

Guests have access to the whole house, outdoor spaces and garden.  Located in on the outer edge of the famous South Lakes village of Coniston; Mountain Cottage offers both the convenience and facilities of the village whist maintaining rural charm; to the east the cottage faces green fields and onto lake Consiton whilst to the west stands the impressive Old Man of Coniston.

We love the location as:

- There are five pubs within 5 minutes walk

- It's a 10 minutes walk to the shore of Coniston Water

- The village has an abundance of cafes', shops and restaurants

- It is 2.5 Miles to the summit of the Old Man

- From the cottage you can trek the famous Cumbrian Way

Getting There

The cottage has one parking space, which is up a tight road, we will send details on the parking prior to arrival, more street and paid parking locally.   The village is also serviced by a bus from Windermere Train Station.

The cottage has a perfect location to enjoy walks, hiking or going to the lake without taking the car. We particularly enjoyed the Old Man of Coniston straight from the cottage as well as Coniston Water 10 min walk. The house has a lot of character and the football table is a real plus especially for children. The kitchen is not very big but for a holidays it s fairly enough. Good to have the washing machine as well. Very clean, fully refurbished, no need the car to go shopping or restaurant. One suggestion: let bigger sauce pan or salad bowl but it s a minor detail compared to the overall brilliant quality of the place, the house and the kindness of Will. Would definitely recommend!!!

The Cottage was lovely

The Cottage was lovely, very clean on arrival, & easy to access following the instructions. All the appliances worked. The outdoor facilities were good for we enjoyed a couple of evenings in the rest looking out over the wonderful view, with a glass of wine. All the restaurants and pubs were closed, but that didn’t matter as we cooked, ate and drank in the cottage. We were celebrating my special birthday.

It was a pleasure to stay in this lovely cottage.

It was a pleasure to stay in this lovely cottage. Two toilets and showers/bathroom made it easier as there were 4 adults and a child. Cosy living room with the electric fire was a nice touch for the colder weather and the nice size dining table was great to sit and chat to those working in the kitchen. Location was great with lovely views from the gardens and easy walking distance to lake/pubs and convenience store. We had a great stay and would highly recommend.

We had a fabulous stay

We had a fabulous stay, the area is stunning and the cottage is a 2 minute walk from pubs and shops which is ideal! The cottage itself is spotless and has nice added touches like the belvedere and the snug. Will was a great host as well and can't thank him enough for his help! We can't wait to get back soon

A very well equipped cottage for our growing family.

A very well equipped cottage for our growing family. Perfectly located for Coniston amenities and walks from the doorstep. Great to have the boys on the downstairs room and parents to be a little bit away from them. All the little outdoor areas and games were great for the boys - and got them out from under their parents feet too! We have always liked the Black Bull pub in Coniston (for food too) but can also recommend The Crown (sports on TV), The Sun & The Ship (off the beaten track - but nice to walk to from the cottage). Pizza's are great. Indian Restaurant is also very good. Don't expect a shopping metropolis in Consiton - you'll be disappointed. Its a simple village - with easy access to Ambleside (where the shopping is great) - and this means it doesn't attract the same large tourist group in the day, which makes it that little bit more peaceful than it's busier peers.

This is a gem of a cottage

This is a gem of a cottage. A 5 minute walk to Coniston village and a 10 minute walk ( or longer depending on your chosen route) to Coniston Water. We enjoyed using all of the spaces at Mountain Cottage. The outside table was great for eating and taking in the stunning views. The kids enjoyed the boule and we all took turns to read in the reading room. The kitchen was well equipped and we all appreciated the second tv in the master bedroom! All of the bedrooms were comfortable. We loved the whole area and would highly recommend Mountain Cottage.

We loved our stay at Mountain Cottage.

We loved our stay at Mountain Cottage. The owner could not have been more efficient or helpful before, during & after our holiday. The cottage itself is fantastic with great character. It is comfortable & well equipped although it does lack clothes hanging space in the main bedroom. We cooked meals at the cottage but did try the Fish & Chip shop in the village which we can highly recommend. Our only negative comment would be about the garden. Although beautiful & 'enclosed' we didn't feel confident to allow our dogs off lead. We always supervise but with the best will in the world we were worried that they might quickly push through at several points & drop directly down onto the busy main road below. Set in a beautiful location Mountain Cottage is an ideal base for both local & further afield walks.

Everything we needed for our 5 night stay

On arrival we found the cottage clean and tidy and enjoyed looking around and exploring the outside space. The kitchen was equipped with everything we needed for our 5 night stay, the bathrooms were spacious and the beds comfortable. The owner was very helpful from the point of booking the cottage right through to the end of the holiday when he kindly posted a wallet back to us that had been left behind. The parking is up a steep twisty hill but after a couple of trips out we soon got used to it. The cottage is old and quirky with quite a lot of steps, my parents both in their late eighties had to take care and be sure footed but managed to get through the holiday without tripping or falling over. Would I visit the cottage again? Of course I would, there
